Why not watch whales from the decks of the Island Venture and discover the beauty of the western side of World Heritage-listed Fraser Island? This full-day tour includes exploring two of these three locations (crystal clear Wathumba Creek or the fresh waters of Awinya or Bowarrady Creeks), stunning sandy beaches accessed via an amphibious craft, nine kilometres of coloured sand, and other activities on the island such as guided walks, snorkelling, kayaking and swimming*. You’ll also be able to enjoy the licensed bar and complimentary delicious buffet lunch while you soak up the amazing scenery around you. If the conditions are right, (calm waters, no calves in the pod) you may get the opportunity to swim near the whales, at no extra cost!

The Island Venture is a well-appointed 12-metre catamaran and one of the most stable vessels in Hervey Bay, ensuring a very pleasant cruise. Feel the cool ocean mist on one of the two decks, or relax in the comfort of the cabin.

From the moment you step onto the Island Venture, the staff will ensure you have a relaxing and unforgettable experience whether you’re on the boat or exploring on shore!

* All equipment and activities are included in the price of the tour.

54321 Excellent booking experience with fast and helpful responses. The tour exceeded expectations. We saw 20 pods of whales, got in the water with them and were well looked after by the team onboard

Things to Consider

  • This might be a full day experience, but you won’t confined to the boat for all 9 hours. The highlight of this tour is that you get to spend time off the boat exploring the west side of Fraser Island and enjoying other activities in addition to watching whales - perfect for those who want to get more out of their day.
  • The tour may be considered too long for some young children, though, which is why the operator recommends this for guests 12 years and older. We’re not saying you should discount this tour if you do have young children (particularly since there are on-shore activities); just bear the duration in mind.
  • This is not a sightseeing tour and does NOT see the eastern side of Fraser Island, where popular sights such as Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek, the Maheno Shipwreck and 75 Mile Beach are located. If you really want to see those sights AND see whales, and you have two days available, then we suggest you go on a 1/2 day or 3/4 day whale watching tour one day and then do a separate, dedicated 1 Day Fraser Explorer Tour on another (please note those are not whale watching tours).
