You’re in good hands with the highly awarded Quick Cat II, as you’ll be cruising with the couple who pioneered whale watching in Australia in the late 1980s, and on one of the most stable vessels in Hervey Bay. It’s a perfect family day out!

The tour leaves from both Hervey Bay and Fraser Island (Kingfisher Bay Resort - morning only), and includes a free pick up from your Hervey Bay accommodation so you can take advantage of the fully licensed boat! And to keep the kids entertained, each child receives a booklet with activities, colouring in, puzzles, pictures and more. You can even purchase a DVD of the tour for posterity.

Like most tours available, the boat is equipped with a hydrophone to hear the whales and an underwater camera, a water-level viewing platform and 360 degree views from the boat, and includes complementary morning/afternoon tea and hot or cold snacks (for purchase). It is also one of the most wheelchair accessible vessels, with wide decks and at-level facilities.

Because the morning tour goes via Kingfisher Bay Resort, guests have the option to add lunch at the resort and spend the afternoon there before returning back to Hervey Bay.

*NEW* Swim with the whales experience: For an additional $95, guests can now swim with the whales in Hervey Bay. Please note this unique experience is subject to weather conditions, the behaviour of the whales, and the presence of calves.

32121 I expected maybe to much from this tour with Quick Cat 2. Of course I saw so many whales, but they didn't come really close to the boat and stayed there like on the pictures and many youtube videos and I did 3 tours with Quick Cat. Swiming with the whales was also not possible, that was really sad because I came so far from Switzerland just to snorkeling with the whales. They sad when mother and calfs are around then swimming is not aloud, I understand but why are then so many youtube videos where people swim with the calfs? I was a little bit disappointed but it was beautiful to see the whales for the first time. But next time I would try it in Tonga or at the carribeans.

54321 What a fantastic day! The day we booked the weather was not co-operative, we got a friendly call first thing in the morning to advise us and we were rescheduled for the following day. From the moment we stepped on board to a hot cup of coffee I knew we were destined to have a great day. The boat is comfortable with great seating options and the staff are informative and friendly. We had wonderful encounters with quite a few whales and I saw my first breaching!! We opted for the super pass so we got off on Fraser at lunch time where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and a lazy afternoon swimming and exploring Kingfisher Bay resort. The day was complete with a glorious sunset over Hervey Bay on the ferry ride home. All in all I would highly recommend this fantastic day out.

54321 Great day out. Excellent commentary. Saw lots of whales, some of the biggest I'd ever seen.

43211 Great half day. Skipper and crew went out of their way to please. Earlier in the season, so not too many whales about. But sightings were there and considered.

54321 We had a wonderful day even though we did not see any whales we still enjoyed ourselves. The service was wonderful, the music was just great and overall a great day out on the water, Will be back to take you up on the free trip if no whales are sited. Thanks to all the crew for the great day

54321 Just superb. The whales were quite amazing. Right up close to the boat which they seemed more than happy to do. Great day out - thoroughly recommend. Crew was friendly and knowledgeable too.

54321 It was absolutely fantastic experience for me and my boys. Picking up service, welcomed at office, boarding, morning tea, lunch were well organised. Most of all, we really appreciated your hospitality and taking us to the right spot for whale watching. I never expected that close encounter with the gigantic creatures. I certainly recommend the Quick Cat 2 to my friends, it was perfect boat for the tour, plenty of seats, different floor level provided us unique view and we almost touched the whale from the side of the boat. Thank you so much, you made our holiday very special. We defininitely want to come back again to enjoy your tour.

Our Tour Review

Things to Consider

  • There is wheelchair access on the wide deck and to the toilets, making this the most suitable tour for the mobility-impaired.
  • The morning cruise travels via Kingfisher Bay to pick up and drop off guests, hence the slightly longer tour time and higher price. If you’re short on time, you may prefer the afternoon cruise or one of the other half-day tours available.
  • If time isn’t an issue, then you might want to think about either staying for lunch at the resort or even overnight. The lunch option means you’ll enjoy a delicious meal and have use of the resort until the afternoon ferry back to Hervey Bay (see the Tour Availability and Pricing for more information and cost). Note that the ferry does not drop you back at the same place you departed the tour from at Hervey Bay, so you’ll need to take a free shuttle from the ferry stop to get back to the marina. If you’d like to stay overnight, then why not add a Kingfisher Bay package?
  • Swimming with whales is incredible… if you’re able to do it. However, even if the tour staff give the green light to a swim that day, it’s not guaranteed for all guests who want to because there is a limit of 4 people at any time. For this reason, guests would only pay the additional cost if they actually get into the water (the suit, life vest, snorkel and mask are provided). So please keep this in mind to avoid any disappointment.
  • What to bring? We recommend you wear flat shoes and bring your camera, sunscreen and a hat, a warm jacket, and money for food/drinks/souvenirs (since there are hot snacks available, too).
