Winner of the 2012 Best Tourism Whale Encounter Operator award!

Enjoy a unique full-day sailing experience on the immaculate Blue Dolphin with skipper Peter as he brings you so close to the whales you could touch them. Peter has over 30 years of experience with marine mammals, of which 14 years were spent as a marine mammal trainer at Seaworld, so let yourself be entertained and informed by his wealth of knowledge.

The Blue Dolphin is the smallest whale watching vessel in Hervey Bay, and possibly the most intimate whale encounter you could have. The boat is licensed and your tour includes a complementary alcoholic beverage upon arrival, catered food, free transfers from your Hervey Bay accommodation, and on board WiFi so you can share your amazing experience as it happens.

A highlight is the Immersive Whale Experience, which is included in the cost of your tour; where possible, the rear platform will be lowered to allow passengers to lay down and view the whales in the water while wearing a mask and snorkel.

54321 Brilliant day.. calm waters great crew and heaps of whales .... you wouldnt have a better experience than we had.. near the end if our trip 2 very freindly whales showed us just how majestic they really are..they stayed with us for about an hour sometimes only metres from the boat.. a score of 12 out of ten.... we will be back....

54321 Peters boat is fantastic. The tour was great with an early morning start we saw numerous small pods of whales. Then w female whale, longer than the boat , spent over an hour circling and popping up and playing with the boat and responding to the visitors. Truly an amazing experience. Other pods were nearby and were also active. The food and the hospitality was great, Would recommend this tour . Ray August 2017

54321 We are still talking about it, it was a wonderful experience. The Blue Dolphin team is excellent, starts with pick up, lovely boat, only 26 people, room to move. Thanks to Peter we learned a lot about the whales. And we have been lucky to see an extraordinary display from the whales. Thanks to Peter and the crew for an amazing day.

54321 My wife and had a fantastic day today on the Blue Dolphin Whale Dolphin tour, thanks to owners Peter and his wife. Peter has an extensive knowledge of whales, dolphins and other sea creatures and was very informative and Jodie, in between proving in yummy morning tea, lunch an afternoon tea was valuable whale spotter. Peter made sure we got to see the whales close. We could not recommend tour highly enough. Great value for money. Will be recommending it to all our friends.

54321 I had the most wonderful day on board the Blue Dolphin. Peter was a wonderful host and provided us with a detailed explanation of the varieties of Whales. We saw so many whales so close to us that we could almost touch them! Being low down to the water on this yacht is a great advantage. The food and service we had was excellent. Thanks Peter for a wonderful day!

54321 Wow! Wow! Wow! If I never ever do another whale watch tour again I can only say this was the best. Peter and mel were the most interesting and encouranging hosts. Great information. friendly, heaps of room to run from one side of the boat to the other to capture every best moment. Fun, relaxing MUST DO!!!!!!!

54321 We have been on a couple of whale watch tours and blue dolphin was by far the best. The fact there was only 20 passengers meant there was plenty of room for everyone to see the whales and see them is an understatement you feel like your close enough to just touch them. Thank you Peter,Jodie and Helen for a day we will never forget.

Our Tour Review

Things to Consider

  • Eight hours might seem like a long time to be out on the water, and the 8-knot cruising speed can mean longer time between whale pods, but this isn’t your typical whale watching tour. You would choose this if you want a rich sailing experience with a knowledgeable skipper who can get you closer to the whales than almost any other vessel, and if you enjoy smaller groups of people (the Blue Dolphin has a capacity for 30 people, but they generally only take around 20 people).
  • While this tour can be enjoyed by people of all ages and there are children’s activities available, we find it’s better suited to adults and older children. (This might have something to do with the more intimate group size and the full day on the water.)
  • The Blue Dolphin isn’t airconditioned, but given the small group size and the fact you’ll likely want to be out on deck soaking up the beauty of the Bay, it shouldn’t be an issue.
  • What to bring? We recommend you wear flat shoes and bring at the very least your camera, sunscreen, hat, jacket, polaroid sunglasses, and money for additional drinks and food. If you think you might want to take advantage of the immersive experience (if the opportunity arises), then wear or bring swimmers and clothes you don’t mind getting wet.
